Screenshot folder missing in Windows 11: Quick Fix

Its so easy to take a screenshot now; you can take a screenshot of a small part or entire display through different methods. Similarly, in its older version, Windows 11 users could take screenshots using the Windows + PrtSc key or the abiding Snipping Tool (Win + Shift + S). Despite all these features, many users have recently complained that the screenshot folder is missing on their Windows 11.

Generally, the captured screenshots will get saved in the default Screenshot folder. But in the case of some users, this Screenshot folder is missing; as a result, they are helpless to use the captured screengrab. Steps to resolve the Screenshot folder missing in Windows 11:

  • Firstly, type regedit in the search bar and open the Registry Editor from the search result.
  • Then type or copy the paste the following command in the Registry Editor address bar,

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

  • Now expand the option Explorer from the left side of the screen and click on the ScreenshotIndex file from the right side files list.
  • If you failed to find the same file, then right-click over the white space and select New-> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  • Then rename the file as ScreenshotIndex.
  • Thereafter open the ScreenshotIndex file and click on the radio button beside Decimal under the Base section, and set the Value data as 695.
  • Once done, again type or copy then paste the following address in the Registry Editor address bar,

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

  • This time go to the right side of the screen and select and double click on {B7BEDE81-DF94-4682-A7D8-57A52620B86F} file. 
  • Here also you failed to find the same file right-click on White space and select New-> Expandable String Value and rename it as {B7BEDE81-DF94-4682-A7D8-57A52620B86F} 
  • Now open the file by double-click on it, and in the Value data field, type the following location,

%USERPROFILE%\Pictures\Screenshots

  • And then, click on the OK button to continue and save all the changes.
  • Once done, restart the system and check now the screenshot folder is available or not.

Steps to Change the Windows 11 Default Screenshot Folder location:

Normally by default, the captured screenshots are saved to C:\Users\UserName\Pictures\Screenshots location. If you need to change this location in your Windows 11, then you can follow the below-given steps,

  • Firstly, you need to create a New folder (name it as Screenshot) anywhere in your system to save new screenshots.
  • Then move to the following default Screenshot location,

C:\Users\UserName\Pictures\Screenshots

  • Now, right-click over the Screenshot folder and select its Properties.
  • Inside the Screenshot Properties window, select the Location tab from the top menu and click on the Move button.
  • There select the newly created Screenshot folder and click on the Select folder tab.
  • Then click on the OK button to continue. Hereafter all the screenshots using Windows + PrtSc key will get saved on this newly created folder.
