How to Enable/Disable Tabs for File Explorer on Windows 11

Windows 11 users can now enable tabs in File Explorer in the latest Windows Preview Build 22572. The same hidden feature was identified by Microsoft enthusiast Rafael Rivera. The most significant advantage of this feature is that it allows the user to launch multiple folders on individual tabs in a single File Explorer window. As this is in a test phase, Microsoft has not yet officially announced it, which can be expected in next week’s Windows 11 Insider preview build.

This tabbed File Explorer feature works similarly to the Microsoft Edge, which allows users to open folders on a new tab instead of opening new windows. Note: Before enabling the Tab feature for File Explorer, you need to enrol in the Dev channel using the Windows Insider program. Then click the Check for Update button inside the Windows Update screen and install Build 22572.
